Marcin Dukalski, of the Aramco Research Center discusses his team’s focus on advanced computing for Aramco’s upstream business. He elaborates on the computationally intensive nature of subsurface imaging and how they are working to make it more manageable through quantum computing. He envisions a hybrid approach, combining quantum and classical computing, for the foreseeable future. By the end of the year, he expects end-users at Aramco to begin solving shallow subsurface anomaly estimation problems using quantum computers.
